Abdul-Jabbar Is Fined $500, on Top of $250
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was fined $500 Thursday for fighting with Denver’s Danny Schayes Tuesday night during Game 2 of the NBA Western Conference final series between the Lakers and the Nuggets.
Abdul-Jabbar, who was called for a technical foul seconds earlier, was charged with his second foul and ejected during the fourth quarter for wrestling Schayes to the floor. The ejection, automatic after the second technical, carried an automatic $250 fine. Thursday’s fine was in addition to that. Abdul-Jabbar has two weeks to pay it.
Just before the incident, Schayes and Abdul-Jabbar exchanged elbows, and Abdul-Jabbar was charged with his first technical. Moments later, Schayes and Laker guard Magic Johnson scuffled, and Abdul-Jabbar grabbed Schayes from behind, applied a headlock and wrestled the Denver player to the floor.
