Ninety-six percent of 300 American Motors Corp. workers in Milwaukee voted to enter early contract talks with the auto maker, which has threatened to close its Milwaukee plant unless concessions are made. The union contract expires in September, but no vote was taken on concessions. UAW Local 75 in Milwaukee represents about 700 workers in AMC’s stamping and manufacturing plant and its national parts distribution center in Milwaukee. The action came a day after 83% of Local 72 workers at AMC’s Kenosha plant voted to begin early contract negotiations but rejected a company ultimatum for immediate concessions.
