A 30-year-old Anaheim jail inmate died early Monday morning, several hours after he had complained of chest pains, an Anaheim police spokesman said Monday.

Sgt. Larry Kurtz said cause of death of the inmate, whose name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, was listed by the Orange County coroner’s office as a heart attack.

Kurtz said the man was arrested about 3 a.m. for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and was taken to the Anaheim City Jail. He was taken later to Anaheim Memorial Hospital about two hours later after he complained of chest pains.
