Share

A retired North Hollywood insurance agent was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to charges involving a scheme to defraud about $1 million from United Insurance Co. of America, where he worked for 30 years. In sentencing William Ekaireb, 69, U.S. District Judge James M. Ideman said the defendant could be considered for parole in two years because of his age and health. Ekaireb and another insurance agent, who also has been sentenced to prison, were charged with bilking the Chicago-based company by filing claims on life insurance policies for people who were not dead.
