Seven members of Greenpeace were arrested by Richmond police when they tried to dam the flow of waste water from the Chevron USA Richmond refinery into San Francisco Bay. The six men and one woman, who were building the dam along Castro Creek, were cited for trespassing and released. The environmental activist group’s members claimed that toxic discharges in the refinery’s flow of waste and cooling water are killing fish in the bay. A Chevron spokesman contended the company is in full compliance with its discharge permit.
