A 13-year-old Patrick Henry Junior High School student was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly threatened a teacher and an assistant principal with a stolen gun, Los Angeles police said Thursday.

The boy, whose name was not released because of his age, was arrested Wednesday afternoon without resistance a short distance from the Granada Hills school. He was taken to Sylmar Juvenile Hall, Detective Sandy Palmer said.

There were no shots fired and no one was injured during the 1:20 p.m. incident, police said.

According to Palmer and school officials, shortly before the alleged assaults the boy burglarized a home near the school and stole a loaded handgun, a knife and several other items.

He then scaled a fence on campus during the lunch hour and threatened Martin Pattee, the assistant principal, and an unnamed English teacher in an empty classroom, according to Principal Linda Lane.

Lane said the youth jumped back over the fence and fled moments later when other school officials came to investigate.

Palmer said the youth was “upset about something at school,” but she did not elaborate.

Police will seek charges of assault with a deadly weapon and burglary against the youth, Palmer said.
