Sen. East Recuperates From Thyroid Failure

WASHINGTON — Sen. John P. East (R-N.C.) is recuperating at home from a severe thyroid failure that required a month of hospital treatment, an aide said Thursday.
East, 54, was released Tuesday from Bethesda Naval Hospital and returned to his home in nearby Alexandria, Va., the aide said.
