Fullerton Hits Homer Off Doom, Beats UCLA in Softball World Series

Share

UCLA pitcher Debbie Doom, who hadn’t given up a home run in compiling a four-year record of 71-16, had her record spoiled Friday night as Cal State Fullerton defeated the Bruins, 2-0, in the NCAA Division I Women’s Softball World Series.

Fullerton junior Robin Goodin, who hadn’t hit a home run in her career, tagged Doom for a homer in the sixth. Bruin left fielder Stacy Winsberg crashed into the chain-link fence trying to catch Goodin’s drive and suffered facial cuts that required stitches.

Fullerton (53-8), which scored an unearned run in the third inning on Lisa Baker’s RBI single, meets Nebraska (37-9) today in winner’s-bracket action of the double-elimination tournament. The Cornhuskers defeated Cal Poly Pomona, 2-0, in another battle of unbeatens Friday night.
