Hosts Sought for Students From Europe
American Scandinavian Student Exchange International is seeking South Bay families willing to serve as hosts to European students during the next school year or for a one-month summer program starting in mid-July.
Missy Bosch, area representative for the nonprofit organization affiliated with the Swedish and Finnish ministries of education, said the foreign students speak fluent English and must pass a series of academic tests and character screenings before being admitted to the exchange program.
She said the students are 16 to 18 years old and are covered by medical and liability insurance. Host families provide food and lodging, and the students pay their own travel, education and incidental expenses.
Among students awaiting invitations from South Bay families, Bosch said, are Johanna Kartila of Finland, Alexander Klosterkemper of West Germany and Jonas Anderson of Sweden.
“It’s a wonderful cultural and personal experience for both the students and members of the host families,” Bosch said.
Bosch, of Hermosa Beach, can be reached through the student exchange office at 228 North Coast Highway, Laguna Beach, Calif. 92651.
