Supervisors Approve Smoking Restrictions
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors gave final approval Tuesday to an ordinance that restricts smoking in county buildings. Unlike a version passed by the City of Los Angeles, it does not regulate private businesses.
The new law bans smoking in the 500 county buildings except for a few areas that are specifically exempted. It applies not only to approximately 70,000 workers employed by the state’s largest county, but also to those doing business in county facilities.
The buildings covered include a wide range of functions, such as welfare offices, hospitals and health clinics, probation offices and courthouses.
