High Court Refuses to Halt Scheduled Execution in Florida
The Supreme Court late Tuesday denied a reprieve for mass murderer Marvin Francois, clearing the way for his execution in the electric chair early today.
The high court, in a 7-2 vote, refused to halt the execution, which was scheduled to take place at 7 a.m.
Francois, 39, had been scheduled to die Tuesday but won a temporary stay from the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta, which later refused to extend the reprieve.
Francois was convicted of the July 27, 1977, murder of six persons and the wounding of two others at a northwest Miami house believed to be the headquarters of a drug ring.
