The judge who gave the City of Los Angeles until this Saturday to bring zoning into conformity with its general plan relaxed the deadline by two weeks to give the city and 42 suing homeowners’ associations an opportunity to work out a settlement. The reform mandated by state law would regulate and substantially restrict the size of commercial buildings throughout the city. Last month Los Angeles Superior Court Judge John L. Cole appointed a referee to oversee the city’s efforts. At issue is the implementation of an interim compliance ordinance that a federation of Westside and San Fernando Valley homeowners contends has too many loopholes. Cole gave the parties until June 14 to either settle or return to court for a hearing on the city’s motion to extend the deadline.
