Soviet sports officials said they had been given the go-ahead to send their best teams to any world-class events in South Korea and will definitely be attending the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

Spokesmen for federations representing archery, handball, boxing and judo all confirmed that they planned to attend world championships in these events being held this year in South Korea, which has no diplomatic ties with the USSR.

But the Soviet Olympic Committee Secretary Viktor Khotochkin said the committee had yet to make a decision on whether the country will participate in the 1988 Olympics and will abide by rules giving the Soviets nearly three years to decide.

A district court jury in Lincoln, Neb., has ruled in favor of Irving Fryar, a wide receiver with the New England Patriots, in a $20,000 civil suit filed by his former girlfriend.

Fryar, a former Nebraska All-American, was sued over an incident of Feb. 14, 1984, in which Martha Florence claimed Fryar broke down the door to her apartment to retrieve a rocking chair he said was his. She also claimed that Fryar had physically assaulted her.
