6 Die as Temperature Reaches 118 in India

Temperatures in northern India hit 118 degrees Wednesday, and six people died of heat stroke.

New Delhi and the states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan were hardest hit by the dry, scorching heat. Six people died in Uttar Pradesh.

Agra recorded an all-time high of 118.6 degrees. Bhatinda in Punjab had a record 116.6 degrees. New Delhi’s high was 109 degrees. Forecasters in the capital said temperatures may rise today.

Meanwhile, a tropical storm in the Arabian Sea was taking aim at the western coastline, including Bombay. The storm, with winds up to 72 m.p.h., was expected to strike shore this morning.
