Downtown San Francisco office developers would have to help provide child care for employees in their buildings under a measure being considered by city lawmakers. The proposal would require developers to pay up to $1 for every square foot of office space to a citywide fund, or provide a day-care center for employees. But Chamber of Commerce Executive Director John Jacobs said the measure, under consideration by the Board of Supervisors and the city’s Planning Commission, is just another tax that could hurt economic development in a city that already has a high office vacancy rate.
