Surprises Expected at Brotherhood Ball

There’s a lot of brotherhood, and some sisterhood, going around in the 37th annual Brotherhood Ball on Wednesday at the Century Plaza Hotel. The National Conference of Christians & Jews will honor Stanley H. Hirsch, Dolores Hope and George F. Moody.

Chief concocter of the fete is Lester Korn, chairman and chief executive office of Korn/Ferry International. As general dinner chairman, he and Carolbeth are working with Dickinson Ross, chairman of Johnson & Higgins, the Hon. Mildred L. Lillie and Ralph Briscoe, CEO of Republic Corp., on the party.

They say to expect some surprises. What we already know is that Danny Thomas will be the celebrity presenter, replacing Phyllis Diller. Les Brown and his Band of Renown will provide music for dancing. And a 66-member blue-ribbon executive dinner committee, a cross section of prominent Southern Californians, is applying the success techniques for industry to socializing.

Among them are former President Gerald R. Ford and Betty; Barbara and Charles I. Schneider, group vice president, Times Mirror Co.; Dixie and Howard Allen, chairman and CEO of Southern California Edison; Marilyn and Dave Anderson, chairman General Telephone; Marilyn and Bob McIntyre, president Southern California Gas; Speedy and Walter Beran, vice chairman, Ernst & Whinney, and Joanne and John Bland, president of Sitmar.

Neil H. Jacoby was the founder of the UCLA Graduate School of Management, a counselor to businesses and governments and the founder of the UCLA International Student Center. His living memorial, the Neil H. Jacoby International Award, will be presented for the third year today at a Beverly Wilshire black-tie dancing party.

It goes in duplicate to Mayor Tom Bradley and Baseball Commissioner Peter V. Ueberroth for their contributions to the XXIII Olympiad.

The soaps have become more than what we wash with: They’re the spine of daytime television. And 40 of the biggest names in daytime TV have committed to “Do Lunch With the Stars” for the Free Arts Clinic for Abused Children benefit Saturday at the Beverly Hilton.

Patsy Pease, Nick Costa, Kate Linder, Marj Dusay, Ted de Mers, Chris Robinson and Philece Sampler will be starring to fight child abuse.

William F. Kieschnick is honorary chairman of the Special Evening of American Music featuring Lou Rawls and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra on Monday at the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton.

Music Director Gerard Schwarz will conduct.

Heading the dinner are Hanna M. Kennedy and Stephen F. Weiner. Tickets are $250.
