A 17-year-old Oceanside girl was critically injured Thursday evening when the motorcycle on which she was riding hit a car in an intersection.
Tammy Lopez was listed in critical condition Friday afternoon after being flown by Life Flight helicopter to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. According to Oceanside police, Lopez had been riding on the back of a motorcycle driven by Eric Burke, 27, of Oceanside.
The couple were riding westbound on Missouri Street in Oceanside shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday when they hit a car that was traveling north on Freeman Street, a police spokesman said.
Lopez, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and landed head-first on the street, police said. Burke, who suffered a broken ankle and other minor injuries, was treated at Tri-City Hospital and released.
Police had not determined who was responsible for the accident by late Friday.
