Stuart Margolin, who won an Emmy Award in 1981 for the portrayal of his sleazy character Angel Martin on “The Rockford Files,” will play the role again on NBC’s “Riptide” next season. He’ll be a regular, using his underworld connections to help series stars Perry King, Joe Penny and Thom Bray.

Treat Williams will portray Ernest Hemingway in a six-hour TV drama about the famous writer. “Hemingway,” scheduled to air in April on KCOP Channel 13, will dramatize the major events of his life, including his four marriages. It is based on Carlos Baker’s book, “Ernest Hemingway: A Life Story.”

“Masterpiece Theatre” will open the fall season with “The Last Place on Earth,” a six-part drama about the race to the South Pole between British explorer Robert Scott and Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen. It stars Martin Shaw as Scott, Sverre Anker Ousdal as Amundsen, Susan Wooldridge as Scott’s wife and Max von Sydow as Amundsen’s mentor.
