COMMENCEMENT 1985 : California State University, Fullerton

Cal State Fullerton’s 25th anniversary celebration concluded with the last graduation ceremony Sunday evening. A record 5,008 diplomas were presented, in sharp contrast to the university’s first graduating class in 1960, when five diplomas were presented to all undergraduate students. A total of six separate commencement ceremonies were held Saturday and Sunday on the green adjoining the Performing Arts Center on campus. Degrees: 3,856 undergraduate diplomas and 1,152 graduate degrees were awarded. Speakers: Alumna Alice M. Grant delivered the commencement address at the Humanities and Social Sciences ceremony. Miles D. McCarthy, coordinator of health professions and a professor of biology, emeritus, along with alumna Susan Arena and Dean A. James Diefenderfer, delivered remarks at the Mathematics, Science and Engineering commencement ceremony. Dean Peter J. Facione and alumna Cynthia Bogen-Jones spoke at the Human Development and Community Service schools ceremony. Robert J. Stewart, professor of music, and Theresa Harvey, alumna, addressed the Arts commencement ceremony. Alumnus Joseph Nogues presented remarks at the Business Administration and Economics ceremony. Coastline Community College held its ninth annual commencement Sunday afternoon at the Lincoln/Newport Learning Center in Corona del Mar. Chancellor David A. Brownell delivered the commencement address. Associate of arts diplomas were presented to 324 students. John L. Buller, former dean of admissions and president, was presented an honorary associate in arts degree.
