Former KNBC anchor Tritia Toyota was hired Monday to join the anchor lineup at KCBS-TV Channel 2.

Toyota, who left Channel 4 March 1, will begin work at the CBS-owned station Monday and will make her first appearance on the air June 17, KCBS general manager Frank Gardner said.

However, a decision has not yet been made as to which newscast she will anchor, a KCBS spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman said that Toyota is an addition to the KCBS anchor team and will not be displacing anyone.

Toyota began her news career in 1970 at KCBS’ sister radio station, KNX. She moved to KNBC as a general assignment reporter in 1972 and began anchoring the news there in 1975.

She departed the station March 1 when her contract expired under conditions that she and management termed amicable. Her contract there had prevented her from working for a competing station for three months.

In a statement released Monday by KCBS, Toyota said, “A wonderful part of this new position is that I really feel like I’m coming home. I’ve always believed that CBS is the epitome of what news is all about.”
