At least one child was killed and up to 29 people were injured today when a chartered bus carrying elementary school students on a graduation outing slammed into the rear of a stalled milk truck.

Witnesses said every seat in the bus was ripped from the floor and screaming, crying children were piled atop each other in the aisles. Judy Hunt, principal of Florence Markofer Elementary School in the Elk Grove Unified School District, said the bus was hired to take about 70 6th graders to a graduation outing at Marriott’s Great America amusement park in Santa Clara.
