China-based units of the two corporations formed a joint venture to pursue contracts for all phases of airport planning and construction in China. The joint venture combines Irvine-based Fluor’s construction management experience with the airport design knowledge of St. Louis-based McDonnell Douglas. Although the newly created team has yet to win a contract, a Fluor spokesman said the companies view China as a vast and untapped opportunity for airport facilities.
