Residents who would like to comment on the city’s 1985-86 proposed $361-million budget can attend the first of three public hearings today.

City Council members this afternoon will consider plans from 14 departments, including public utilities, which takes up the largest chunk of Anaheim’s budget.

The budget calls for a 6% electricity rate increase in 1985-86 and a 12% increase in 1986-87. Another increase in public utilities is slated for 1986-87, when the water rate will increase by 12% if approved by council.

City officials were presented with a two-year plan, instead of the annual one-year budget, at a council meeting May 28. The budget for 1986-87 is $408 million.

Departments scheduled for a public hearing beginning at 1:30 p.m. today include police, fire, community development and planning, and parks, recreation and community services.
