Fire Warning Forces Jet En Route to L.A. to Land

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —
An Eastern Airlines flight from New York to Los Angeles made an unscheduled landing early Wednesday at Kansas City International Airport because of an engine fire warning.
No injuries were reported when the twin-engine Boeing 757 carrying 121 people landed safely about 1 a.m., airport officials said. The warning system apparently malfunctioned, officials said.
