Culver City-based Ashton-Tate, a leading developer and marketer of microcomputer software, reported sharply higher revenue and profit for its fiscal first quarter ended April 30. The company’s net income for the three months totaled $2.35 million, up from $149,000 a year earlier. The company attributed the improved results to gains by two of its products, dBASE III--the company’s advanced data-base management system--and Framework--Ashton-Tate’s multifunction productivity tool.
