A man who shot himself to death on a Los Angeles street corner after he allegedly tried to hold a young woman hostage was identified as Frederick A. Dunaway, 31. Police said he took a car at gunpoint in the Rampart area and was eastbound on 3rd Street when he nearly struck another car at Hobart Boulevard. When the other driver drove after him, Dunaway reportedly jumped out, ran to a bus stop, seized a woman and pointed a pistol at her head. When a police officer arrived and ordered him to drop his weapon, he shot himself in the head.
