$30 Million in Cocaine Seized; Suspect Escapes
Approximately $30 million worth of cocaine was seized by Los Angeles police from an automobile in Studio City Monday, but a suspect in the car escaped by running away, police said.
About 50 kilograms of what was believed to be cocaine was recovered from three suitcases in the trunk of the car, which was chased by police after the driver committed a traffic violation shortly after 3 p.m., police said.
Police said the the car was followed from the vicinity of Ventura Boulevard and Vineland Avenue until the suspect abandoned the car and fled on foot at Vineland and Bloomfield Street.
Police said in a statement that although the driver got away, “during the impoundment of the suspect’s vehicle, a large quantity of what appeared to be cocaine was recovered.”
Police said a search was continuing for the driver.
