The Region : Three Earthquakes Jolt San Diego Area

Share

Three moderate earthquakes rattled the San Diego area, shaking downtown office buildings and homes in Coronado. The quakes, two of them centered in San Diego Bay, measured 4.2, 3.9 and 4.0, respectively, on the Richter scale. No injuries or damage was reported, although San Diego police officials reported fielding hundreds of calls from curious residents. A spokesman at Caltech in Pasadena said the quakes were part of a series. “There may be more; there may not be,” spokesman Dennis Meredith said. Yet another temblor, measuring 3.7, hit the Barstow area. Meredith said the quake was not related to the San Diego seismic activity.
