Protesters are planning a march in Los Angeles on Thursday to proclaim their opposition to the cost and agenda of a three-day conference on the future direction of Medicare and Medicaid. Representatives of organizations making up the Medicare/Medicaid Defense Project said they will attempt to deliver a “prescription for America’s health care” during the march on the Bonaventure Hotel, where the conference will be held. John Allard, vice chairman of the Congress of California Seniors, said the conference--co-sponsored by the federal government--is “phony” because it involves only those who “have grown wealthy” through the health care program, not the recipients. The protesters also announced plans to hold a public hearing Saturday at Patriotic Hall in Los Angeles.
