A woman was thrown from a car and killed Tuesday, and the teen-age driver of a second vehicle also died after a collision in the 2000 block of West 1st Street in Santa Ana.

Anna Maria Mejia, 24, Santa Ana, was thrown about 25 feet from a 1974 Lincoln Continental driven by Isidro Martinez Cruz, 29, Santa Ana, when their vehicle was hit by a 1974 Chevy Nova driven by Marilyn Culwell, 16, also from Santa Ana. The accident occurred at 12:15 a.m.

Witnesses said the Nova was traveling in excess of 80 m.p.h. when it struck the Continental, which was making a left turn into a service station. Santa Ana police officials said Mejia was pronounced dead at the scene. Cruz sustained injuries that were apparently minor and was taken to Mercy General Hospital where he was treated and released.
