Trash Fees May Rise: Irvine residents may see the amount they pay for trash collection rise slightly if a proposal before the City Council tonight is approved. Collected for the city through special county property tax assessments, trash fees currently cost Irvine homeowners $59.40 a year. If the proposal tonight is approved, the yearly fee would increase by 4.2% to $61.92. Increased labor costs for the private firm hired by the city to collect garbage and an increase in city administrative costs account for the proposed increase. If approved, the increase will go into effect July 1.
