Costa Mesa : Couple Robbed, Bound by ‘Clean-Cut’ Man

Share

A “clean-cut” gunman robbed an elderly Costa Mesa couple in their home Sunday night, tying up the victims and taking $430.

Frank Skinner, 70, and his wife, Jane, 65, told police that a “neat-appearing, clean-cut young man” apparently cut the phone lines to their home in the 800 block of Victoria Street, then knocked on the door. After the couple opened the door, the man pulled a gun and asked for money.

“He said he was only after money, and didn’t want to hurt anybody,” Detective Sgt. Dennis Cost quoted the couple as saying.

The suspect, wearing gloves, ransacked the house after binding the couple and found $430 in cash. He told the Skinners not to move for five minutes and promptly left the premises, officers said. The Skinners then broke free of the bindings and went to a neighbor’s house to call authorities. They were unharmed, police said.

The suspect is described as a male in his 30s, about 6 feet tall, 160 pounds, with short brown hair and a mustache.
