Amtrak will cut its fares starting Sept. 3 on the San Diego-Los Angeles line in an effort to boost ridership. The round-trip rail fare between the two cities will drop to $25 from $36, and fares to and from intermediate points will also be reduced. Amtrak also is contracting with the California Department of Transportation for additional bus service to feed stations along the route starting in August. The fare cuts and expanded bus service were presented to regional transportation officials at a meeting in Santa Ana.
