Search for Noblewoman Nets Stolen Painting

Police searching for a kidnaped Italian noblewoman Saturday recovered a painting by Renaissance artist Paul Bril that had been stolen from Rome’s Capitoline Museum on June 4.

The 10-by-4 inch painting, stuffed in a jute bag, was found on a deserted farm north of Rome, police said. The work, “Pilgrims of Emmaus,” was taken from its frame and carried away while the museum was filled with visitors and the only guard was outside making a telephone call. The oil painting was valued at $25,000.

Police had been trying to find Marquise Isabella Guglielmi, 37, abducted from her estate early Thursday. They said they turned up the painting by chance.
