Pirate infielder Jim Morrison said Pittsburgh “isn’t a baseball town” and called Sunday for the team to move to another city.

Morrison wasn’t impressed by the 31,384 fans who turned out for Sunday’s Pirate-Chicago game. “Probably 26,000 of them came to root for the Cubs, “ he said.

“The ones that do come boo the first time you strike out or make an error, and they call you names the whole game. They are just miserable people and they come and take it out on us. People have a right to come and boo, but it is a difficult environment to play in.

“The situation here makes it tough to come to work. Not all of us are millionaires and most of us work hard for our money. I wonder how many people could work in the environment we do.

“It’s time to move on to a town that wants baseball and where we can have some fun. I just don’t believe Pittsburgh people really want baseball.”

Pirate President Dan Galbreath has put the team up for sale.
