Parking Space Requirement Eased: An ordinance designed to reduce the number of parking spaces at large commercial developments has received final approval from the City Council on a 3-2 vote. Buildings with more than 100,000 square feet of floor space and those that have different types of businesses with varying peak parking periods would be able to overlap the number of required parking spaces, reducing the total required for the building. The new ordinance, approved Monday, also reduces the minimum number of parking spaces required at office buildings with more than 100,000 square feet of floor space from four spaces per 1,000 square feet to three spaces. It takes effect Aug. 1.
