Huntington Beach : Trailer Park Relocation Proposal Is Considered

Share

Plans for a temporary mobile home relocation site northeast of Golden West Street and Ellis Avenue have received preliminary approval from city officials.

Huntington Shores Mobile Home Park at 21002 Pacific Coast Highway will be closed soon, said Mike Adams, senior redevelopment planner. The plan being considered calls for gradually moving the displaced tenants, at the developers’ expense, to the relocation park. The park is now occupied by Ocean View Mushroom Farms, which will move to a new site in San Diego.

The developer will split the cost of the 22.75-acre relocation site with the city, which will use park acquisition funds gathered from fees assessed to new developments. The land is to be acquired in three stages and will accommodate as many as 500 homes. The initial seven-acre phase approved by the Planning Commission Tuesday is expected to cost about $1.2 million.

“We will eventually end up with a larger park,” said Adams, “and (the tenants) will have a place to live for as long as they want.” The first tenants could move in next spring, he said, adding that the relocation park is expected to close in 20-25 years. City officials hope at that point to make the site an extension of Central Park.
