SAN FRANCISCO —
A federal appeals court today affirmed the income tax convictions of U.S. District Judge Harry E. Claiborne of Las Vegas, the first active federal judge found guilty of committing felonies in office.
Claiborne was convicted by a federal jury last August of failing to report a total of $106,000 in income on his 1979 and 1980 federal tax returns, and was sentenced to two years in prison. He has stayed in office during his appeal but has not handled any cases.
