Questionable Humor in Violence
I was aghast to read Carolyn See’s book review of “Lady Living Alone” by Norah Lofts (“More Than a Mere Thriller, Novel Is Laced With Charm,” June 10) in which she made the foolish comment that . . . a woman alone might even be pleased to be visited by a rapist! I couldn’t believe the stupidity of such an offhand comment in light of the psychological and physical suffering so many women experience as a victim of rape. I object most strongly to this comment.
