Houston Astros first baseman and team captain Enos Cabell was traded to the Dodgers today in exchange for minor league relief pitcher Rafael Montalvo and a player to be named later.

The 35-year-old Cabell, who signed as a free agent with the Astros in 1984, started 29 games at first base this season and hit .243 in 59 games. During most of his 14-year career, Cabell has played third base, a troubled territory for the Dodgers in recent seasons, but a brief Dodger announcement about the trade made no mention of where he will play. The Dodgers optioned first baseman Sid Bream to Albuquerque of the Pacific Coast League to make room on the roster for Cabell.
