Deputy Brian Moran of the Lynwood Sheriff’s Station has received the Sheriff’s Department’s Silver Meritorious Conduct Medal for saving the life of a child trapped in a burning house.

In January, Moran and his partner, Deputy Theresa Whitten, saw smoke coming from a Willowbrook residence. While Whitten restrained a hysterical woman who said her 3-year-old son was trapped in the house, Moran entered the burning building twice before finding the child and bringing him to safety. Moran, 29, is a seven-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department.

The Professional Staff Assn. of Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center in Downey has honored member Dr. Jacquelin Perry, chief of the pathokinesiology service, by presenting her with the Joseph F. Dowling Memorial Distinguished Service Award.

Perry joined the Rancho staff in 1955; she initially worked with post-polio patients, then headed the stroke service. She was the first woman to receive a full professorship in orthopedic surgery at the USC School of Medicine.

Montebello Police Chief Leslie D. Sourisseau has received the Outstanding California Peace Officers Award from the California Peace Officers’ Assn. The award is presented to one officer each year for career achievement and outstanding performance.

Congregation members of Beth Shalom of Whittier collected $11,700 for its 1985 emergency campaign for Ethiopia, Rabbi Norbert Weinberg announced.

Whittier College students Rachel Diaz and Francisco Pabon have received scholarships of $3,000 each from the East Los Angeles Community Union (TELACU). TELACU is a federally funded community organization that operates business ventures as community service projects.
