REUNIONS AND PAIRINGS : LIVE AID BENEFITS CREATE STRANGE BANDFELLOWS

The Who’s reunion at Saturday’s Live Aid concerts isn’t the only notable regrouping at the charity events being held in London and Philadelphia to raise money for African famine relief: Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, who last performed together in 1980, will play a set of Led Zeppelin songs, with Phil Collins on drums and Paul Martinez on bass.

And head bangers will relish the return of Ozzy Osbourne to the Black Sabbath fold.

Other teamings of interest include Mick Jagger with Tina Turner, a trio of Sting, Phil Collins and Julian Lennon, a collaboration between Santana and Pat Metheny, a Paul Young-Alison Moyet duet and Hall & Oates with David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks.

No exact schedule for the shows has been announced, but a rough order of appearance--subject to change--has been provided. The acts are expected to perform in these general time slots. The times listed are Pacific Daylight Time.

LONDON 4 to 5 a.m.: Status Quo, Style Council, Ultravox.

5 to 6 a.m.: Boomtown Rats, Adam Ant, Spandau Ballet.

6 to 7 a.m.: Elvis Costello, Nik Kershaw, Sade.

7 to 8 a.m.: Sting-Phil Collins-Julian Lennon, Howard Jones.

8 to 9 a.m.: Bryan Ferry, Paul Young and Alison Moyet.

9 to 10 a.m.: U2.

10 to 11 a.m.: Dire Straits, Queen.

11 a.m. to noon: David Bowie.

Noon to 1 p.m.: The Who, Elton John, Wham!

1 to 2 p.m.: Paul McCartney & ensemble.

PHILADELPHIA 6 to 9 a.m.: Joan Baez, the Hooters, Four Tops, Billy Ocean, Black Sabbath with Ozzy Osbourne, Run-D.M.C., Rick Springfield, REO Speedwagon, Crosby Stills & Nash, Judas Priest.

9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Bryan Adams, Beach Boys, Tears for Fears, Simple Minds, Pretenders, Santana with Pat Metheny, Ashford & Simpson, Teddy Pendergrass, Thompson Twins.

5 to 8 p.m.: Tom Petty, Kenny Loggins, Cars, Neil Young, Power Station, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page.

8 to 11 p.m.: Duran Duran, Madonna, Rod Stewart, Patti La Belle, Hall & Oates with David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks, Mick Jagger and Tina Turner, Bob Dylan.

The Live Aid concerts can be seen and heard in Los Angeles on the following stations. All times listed are Pacific Daylight Time.

TELEVISION MTV (cable)--midnight to 4 a.m., taped four-hour special “Oz for Africa” concert from Australia; 4-6 a.m., London concert; 6 a.m.-2 p.m., Philadelphia concert (MTV also will broadcast portions of the London concert at this time); 2-8 p.m. or later, Philadelphia concert to conclusion.

KTLA Channel 5--4 a.m.-6 p.m., the London and Philadelphia concerts. Coverage will be followed with a taped rerun of the best hour of the London concert. Audio portion of KTLA’s broadcast will be in stereo.O

KABC Channel 7--8-11 p.m., with ABC Television Network’s taped coverage of London-Philadelphia concerts. The broadcast will be hosted by Dick Clark in Philadelphia.

RADIO KLOS-FM (95.5)--3 a.m.-9 p.m. The two concerts will be aired in stereo.

The radio coverage, provided by ABC, will include all performers. Radio network Westwood One earlier had filed suit to prevent nine artists from being broadcast by ABC, but the company said Wednesday that it has reached a settlement with ABC and Worldwide Sports and Entertainment.

In a press release, Westwood One said that under the agreement, it will be allowed to broadcast hourly radio reports from backstage at the London and Philadelphia concert sites. In exchange, Westwood One has waived the exclusive radio rights that it claims to hold on nine artists scheduled to appear in the benefit concerts, including Tina Turner and Hall & Oates.
