The Region : Three Killed in Gunfight
A gun battle at an Atwater district apartment building left three men dead and another seriously wounded. Police said witnesses told them that Gabriel Nunez, 31, his brother Bonifacio, 41, and a third man as yet unidentified came to an apartment house in the 3400 block of Drew Street at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, called for the occupants of a ground-floor unit to come out--and began smashing windows and firing into the apartment. Their fire was returned, police said, by Tomas Figueroa, 23. The Nunez brothers were pronounced dead at the scene, Figueroa died shortly after arrival at County-USC Medical Center, and the unidentified man was reported in stable condition in the jail ward of County-USC Medical Center.
