A woman real estate agent holding an open house in Carlsbad Sunday was chased into the street and shot by a man who then turned the gun onto himself, according to Carlsbad police.

Police officers responding to a call from neighbors at 3:45 p.m. found Gail Gibb, 37, and William Joyce, 41, lying in the intersection of Cadencia Street and La Costa Avenue.

Gibb suffered gunshot wounds to the back and neck and Joyce suffered a wound to the head.

Both were taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, where they were reported in critical but stable condition Sunday night.

Police said that Gibb was holding an open house when Joyce entered the home and the two began arguing loudly.

When Joyce produced a gun, Gibb ran a short distance to the intersection where the shootings occurred, police said.

A police spokeswoman did not know the relationship between Gibb and Joyce, but a press release issued by the policed said the two are “known to each other.”
