Gunman Confronts Armored Car Guard, Is Shot to Death

Share

A young gunman dressed in black shoved a pistol into the chest of an armored car guard today in Venice and was shot to death before he could pull the trigger, a witness told police.

The would-be robber died of his wounds a few minutes later in Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital. His name, like that of the guard, was not immediately available.

The truck from Armored Transport Inc. had just stopped in front of the Safeway Store at Lincoln and Rose Avenues about 10 a.m. Witness Michael Shea told police that as the truck’s door swung open, the young man in black stepped forward, placed a heavy handgun in the chest of the guard and said, “Give me all the money.”

Shea said the guard apparently had his own pistol drawn and without a word fired three shots. “It was just like on TV,” Shea said.

It was not known how much money the truck was carrying.
