El Toro-Based Marine Bails Out of Jet
A Marine based at El Toro ejected from his jet fighter off Cape Hatteras Wednesday night just before it crashed into the flight deck of the U.S. aircraft carrier Coral Sea. He was rescued uninjured.
A Marine spokesman said Capt. Patrick L. Haake, 30, bailed out before the FA-18 Hornet struck the aft flight deck about 11:30 p.m. The carrier was operating about 100 miles east of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
No one aboard was injured, the spokesman said.
