Soviet Space Zoo Back; Questions Unanswered
An orbital Soviet menagerie has returned to Earth after a weeklong space flight to test animals’ reactions to weightlessness, the official Tass news agency said Friday.
Space experts sent the mini-zoo--a trained monkey along with rats, lizards, fish and insects--into orbit on July 10 aboard a small, Cosmos-series satellite.
Soviet space officials were quoted as saying that preliminary results showed they are still some way from understanding how to combat the sickness that many space travelers feel immediately after leaving Earth.
