A 21-year-old San Diego woman died early Sunday after she and another woman were thrown from their car in an early-morning collision in El Cajon, police said. A man believed to have been driving the other car has been charged with felony hit and run.

Lori Allyn Groves died shortly after 4 a.m. in the emergency room of Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, said Deputy County Coroner Dan Matticks. Her car had been struck at 3 a.m. at West Washington Street and Emerald Avenue.

Jose Abundio Ortiz Robles, 23, a gardener from El Cajon, was arrested an hour later, according to El Cajon police. Robles, who was taken to the County Jail, fled the scene of the accident on foot, said a statement by police Lt. Randy Narramore.
