Veteran left-hander Tommy John completed preparations for his comeback to the big leagues Sunday by pitching six innings for the Madison Muskies in the Class A Midwest League.

John, picked up by Oakland after he was dropped by the Angels June 12, is expected to be inserted into the starting rotation during the A’s current Midwestern trip. A club spokesman said John could start during a weekend series with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Pitching for the Muskies Sunday, John allowed two runs on four hits, walked four and struck out three. He left the game after six complete innings with Madison trailing Kenosha, 2-1, but the Muskies rallied for two runs in the seventh and went on to a 5-2 victory.
