A man and a woman were arrested today and charged with murder and arson in connection with the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior, a ship used in protests by the international environmental group Greenpeace.

Police Detective Superintendent Allan Galbraith said the two were charged with the murder of Greenpeace photographer Fernando Periera, 36, who died in the July 10 explosion, and with arson and conspiracy to commit arson.

Galbraith said the pair, whom he refused to identify, will appear in Auckland District Court Wednesday morning.
